117871: TRAINING REPORT ON FACILITATE LEARNING USING A VARIETY OF METHODOLOGIES
Dates: 23-27 May 2011
Facilitator: Wilhelm Greeff
Location: Eskom Learning Academy (Rhino's rest)
Number of learners: 7 learners attended the learning programme and were present every day. This was my first time in 30 years that all the learners were ladies!
Facilitator: Mr Wilhelm J. Greeff.
Administrative Arrangements: The staff at Eskom assisted when requested and the venue satisfied all the training needs. The refreshments during breaks were enjoyed by all and the meals provided for lunch was five star.
Description of Contact Learning: The discipline and general behavior was very good. The punctuality of the learners was excellent and little time was wasted. The learners were motivated, enthusiastic and participated well.
Quality Assurance. It is Mentornet policy to have facilitators evaluated by the learners on the last day of each contact learning session. The evaluation results are analyzed and added to the course file for verification purposes.
Assessments. The learners were continuously monitored and questions were asked to ensure understanding throughout (formative assessment). The learners also worked in teams where were required to prepare topics and do presentations to demonstrate understanding of certain aspects as well as to assess the critical cross field outcomes including communication, working in a team and problem solving. Due to the fact that the practical assessment is a facilitation session where the learner had to demonstrate acquired knowledge, skills and attitude by facilitating learning sing a variety of methodologies, moderation was done while the learners was being assessed. Assessment was done by observation using a checklist and product evaluation of the session plan and hand outs.
SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE TO THE COURSE:

110058 and 110060: DEMONSTRATE A CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THEORIES AND PRINCIPLES OF TRANSFORMATIVE DEVELOPMENT PRACTICE (110058) AND PLAN LEARNING PROGRAMMES THAT REDRES SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES (110060)
Dates: 14 - 18 February 2011
Facilitator: Wilhelm Greeff
Location: Carletonville
Number of learners:
43 learners attended the training intervention. Attendance was not constant and only 37 learners attended on day one, 41 on day two, 43 on day three, 42 on day four and 43 on day five. 43 learners were theoretically assessed on two unit standards.
Facilitator: Mr Wilhelm Greeff.
Administrative Arrangements:
The administrative arrangements by Mentornet was professional as usual. The venue (room) was sub-standard and very warm. Presentation media was restricted to one flipchart stand and flipcharts.
Contact Learning:
Although the majority of the learners are young, energetic and at times undisciplined, they were well motivated and are looking forward to completing the learnership. They were all hard working and with very stern disciplinary leadership from the facilitator they participated very well during the contact session. Each day also provided for the usual late comers but the general behavior was good. It must be noted that each day provided its fare share of learners who had doctor appointments, needed to attend meetings or appointments disrupting the presentations. The facilitator's policy was very clear in that where a learner was not present in class, the specific learner must catch up in his or her own time and not ask questions on work lost in class. The facilitator was available to address these questions before class, during breaks and after class each day. Learners that did not receive stitements also disrupted the class in that they had to visit the bank to submit their documentation. It is suggested that all activities not related to the contact learning be addressed during the time that the learners are busy with their practical phase.
Quality Assurance:
The learners were continuously monitored and questions were asked to ensure understanding throughout (formative assessment). It is Mentornet policy to have facilitators evaluated by the learners on the last day of each contact learning session.
Close:
Overall it has been a very successful programme with good feedback received from the learner.
Sincerely yours
(Wilhelm Greeff)
